Professor Odessa Gonzalez Benson was a panelist for the Faculty Voices on Public Scholarship Panel, as part of the 2020 Institute for Social Change (ISC) of the Rackham Program on Public Scholarship. Professor Gonzalez talked about the exhibit, Missing Migrants of the Mediterranean, as public-facing work for action research with a migrant advocacy organization based in Tunisia and an interdisciplinary team, at the School of Information and the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. She shared insights about developing mutually beneficial projects in collaboration with community partners; and navigating challenges but also opportunities and rewards of pursuing engaged scholarship.

The Institute for Social Change is an interactive summer experience that allows students to explore the conceptual and practical dimensions of public scholarship; the 2020 program was conducted online. Co-panelists were Maria Cotera, Associate Professor of American Culture and Latino/a Studies, and Katie Richards-Schuster, Associate Professor of Social Work.
